I would like to share some pictures of one of the activities I had with my students. I honestly believe that the students' motivation and interest towards a certain subject is very much depending on the approaches taken by the teachers.
I am not saying that I am the best teacher out there. I still need to improve a lot on my methods. But I am at least trying my best to give the best to my kids.
For this chapter, the students learn about the 3R, which stands for reuse, reduce and recycle. They learn how to differentiate between the three things, and its advantages/benefits.
They also learn about what they can do as students to make earth a better place to live in. For this specific task, I asked the students to go home and find recyclable items only. They will then build a product which they can use daily from these recyclable items that they found.
The reason why I wanted to have this kind of activity is because I want the students to be more appreciative towards the environment. I want them to understand how important the environment is to us, humans. I also want them to start looking after it and do what they can to salvage what is left of our environment.
In addition, I want them to practice using English. When the students have came up with their own products, I called all the students one by one, and they were required to describe the steps in making the products they came up with in English. They also needed to state the materials used in making the products.
